new layout [23 Jul 2006|07:58pm]

Hey guys, this community has sort of been dead for a while but I wanted to let you know that I made a new layout. I think it looks cute and hopefully will work with most screen resolutions. Let me know if anything on it needs to be fixed and I hope you all are having a great summer!

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone would like to host for me for an overnight when I visit Mount Holyoke. The overnight would be on the night of April 13th, and I would visit the college during the day on April 14th.

I know this is a bit of an odd request as…I don’t know any of you. But, I am really interested in getting the real feel of Mount Holyoke and what better way to actually hang out w/ a student?

I am very relaxed and would be up for mostly anything. I would bring my own sleeping bag and pillow, pay for all my own stuff (like dinner or whatever) and…be eternally grateful! The college does sometimes arrange overnights, but as a junior, this isn’t an option for me. I won’t be able to visit again until I am accepted and officially walk through the doors as a freshman, so really wanted to do this now.

To let you get a better idea of who I am (as my LJ doesn’t say much): I am looking for a liberal arts education and really want a college experience that includes great professors, small classes, open-mindedness, and a push for students to take action in their education and world. Some favorite TV shows include: Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, Prison Break (mmm…sexy guys), and Desperate Housewives. I am involved with GSA and Drama at school, and want to have a bunch of fun!

Other than that, I’m not much of a partier and would probably have to stay with someone female, as my mom is coming with me.

If not an overnight…perhaps grabbing lunch that day? Or maybe I could just come and talk to you? Coffee on campus or at a nearby café?

I’d really appreciate anything.

p.s. Also, so this isn’t really creepy, I can provide a picture so you kind of just get a sense of who I am. Oh! And if there any questions, please email: smartypiebrown@hotmail.com

Ride to Boston [17 Dec 2005|12:40am]
hi guys,

My friend and I are renting a pioneer valley transporter van to take us to Logan Airport - Boston on December 23rd. Six people can fit in the van. We have 2 seats left. It would cost about $44. We will pick you up from your dorm and bring you directly to your terminal in the airport; which is very practical if you don't want to drag your luggage to the peterpan busstop and/or around the city etc. So in short pretty much hassle-free. We would leave at around 11 AM.
If interested reply and I will give you my contact info.

want glowsticks? -- cross-posted to mhc [08 Sep 2005|12:37am]

hey guys, I know this is a little weird to be posting in here, but...

Does anyone want some glowsticks? I'm thinking of ordering some after seeing the number of dances there are going to be and I've been wanting to rave since I went to the ISOC dance and the Red Light Special just now.

I'm probably going to be ordering them sometime at the end of this month from where my friend gets his.

They're six inch long glowsticks and they last between six to eight hours, depending on the color.

The site: http://www.extremeglow.com/Merchant4/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=6U&Category_Code=6

Green - usually the brightest, and they last for the second longest amount of time
Hot Pink - I used them last year, really awesome and really bright. They last for the longest
Purple - not so great; the color's good for the first two or three hours but it fades the fastest out of all of them
Blue - pretty bright, but you might want to think about changing colors after the first two hours. It doesn't fade as fast as the purple, but it's still not the greatest.
Red - This one's actually the second darkest out of all of them, but they'd be hot for any more senior hosted dances
Yellow - honestly never used these before, so I can't really tell you if they're good or not.

If any of you guys want glowsticks, just leave a comment here or email me (fuh20k @ mtholyoke.edu), or stop by Prospect (room 110) before September 22nd. It would be really awesome if I can get some more people chipping in.

Hi everyone...

I'm looking for a new home for my pet dove, Hermes. I'm starting at Mount Holyoke on Sunday, and my family doesn't want to keep him, as they're not great at remembering to feed pet birds. I'm hoping someone I can at least talk to will want him, because if I don't find someone I have to bring him to the Animal Rescue League. He'll be adopted there, but I worry that whoever adopts him might not take good care of him.

Description: Hermes is a healthy male "tangerine" dove, ('tangerine' refers to his coloring, though I would describe him as light, tawny brown and white) about 4 years old. I've had him for three years, and they didn't know his exact age at the pet store when I bought him but they said between one and two years.

Care: He needs to have his water changed daily and his food refilled about every two days, his cage needs to be cleaned every week or so, and he needs to be allowed to fly around for a few minutes preferably at least three times a week. Dove food is best, but it can be hard to find, so cockatiel food will be okay too.

A couple of drawbacks: When he's out of his cage he tends to poop on things. It's not hard to clean up, though. The other thing is that he can be very noisy. He coos quite a bit while it's light out.

Cage w/perch, food and water dishes, and a cage cover are included. If you're interested, please comment or email me with your name and phone number at mott20a@mtholyoke.edu

maine won't discriminate [31 Aug 2005|02:35pm]

[ mood | awake ]

So if you read my normal livejournal you've seen about this, but the Maine state legislature passed an act making it illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation or alleged orientation for basic rights like jobs and housing. This right-wing-Christian group got a petition together and now there's a referendum up that would repeal the law. While most of y'all aren't from Maine and so can't vote to knock down the petition in November, I was thinking of raising some money to send to the Maine Won't Discriminate campaign. I'm not sure of any actual fundraising ideas, but I thought I should start getting the word out. If you're interested in giving anything (and it can be a dollar, five dollars, twenty, whatever you can do), I'll probably be keeping up a collection when I get to school, so just find me. If you have any ideas on how I could raise more money, let me know, definately-- I'd love help. Finally, if you know anyone that lives or even goes to school in Maine, tell them about the issue and encourage them to register and vote NO ON 1.

Thanks, and sorry for the political plug, but I think it's really ridiculous that this is even an issue.

[26 Aug 2005|09:18am]

So, I've received some positive comments about attending RHPS on the first Saturday back.

How's this for a plan then...

~*~ Saturday, September 10th we meet at the college's main gate at 11:15pm then walk over to Tower Theatres and still have time to get our tickets, buy crap kits, meet the cast, and/or relax. Dressing up is fun and encouraged! Also, we could wear some kinda name tag with our Livejournal name. We most likely be back in our dorms a little after 2am. ~*~

RHPS [22 Aug 2005|11:12pm]

So I know a lot of people have expressed interest in going to a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show over at Tower Theatres on the first Saturday. Seeing as I'm a little addicted to going.. er.. I mean, a groupie, I thought I'd bring it up again and maybe organize something. I was wondering if people wanted to do a group thing ie: meet at the main gate or over at TT or would people just rather brave it and show up... that is of course if you all are still interested.
Going in a group is always tons of fun and it'll give us all a chance to meet new people.
